The Astarian Empire Military Ranks
The various ranks listed within the Astarian Empire offer unique opportunities to all who hold their rank. As ones rank increases they can take specialized tasks and assignments to go to the next higher rank. Once someone obtains the rank of Magistrate then Supreme, they will have not only the power and authority to lead entire worlds but also command vast amounts of people and armor. The ranks will be listed in order from the top down to the bottom with what their responsibilities are within the Empire.
Supreme King Of The Astarian Empire
The role of Supreme King is currently held by Astar the human male who is loved by the Universe itself. Being a powerful Energy user and a true human, he must stay away from all non H Food Items. This proved very challenging in the beginning as the galaxy they began to conquer was full of what he called fantasy races. With the rise of Elves, Dwarves, and other human-like races the food list of acceptable H Food Items exploded. While the other races were more prevalent in the galactic era, it was discovered that the vast few humans in the empire got sick from various sources this became dangerous. On a few occasions of his rule he spent his time adventuring and finding the delicacy of H Food Items on the various worlds where his adventures take him. He returns to Castle Town to do his paperwork and continue his rule of the empire.
Supreme Lord Of The Astarian Empire
The role of Supreme Lord is currently held by Tanya the Werebear of the Brown Claw Clan, a Beastmen of Werecall. She is in charge of the entire Astarian Empire within the next galaxy. Using her own powers and a few of her fleet, she rules a smaller chunk of the galaxy as the smallest force in the vast sea of undiscovered space.
Supreme Commander Of The Astarian Empire
The role of Supreme Commander is currently held by Yumiko Fallenone the half angle half demon who has served by Supreme King' Astar's side. She is in charge of all things within the empire from military to civilian affairs. With the help of The Adjutant, she runs the high command and signs off on all major orders within the empire. Being a Supreme being she is powerful enough to hold her own in a magical fight but is lacking when compared to the other Supreme beings. She rules directly over the Magistrates and keeps the balance of all the different races and factions within the empire,
Supreme
This rank is only used by the absolute strongest within the empire. Only 21 Supremes currently are within the empire, each one is able to field entire fleets and tend to not intervene within each others territories and domains. Due to their long lived lives and relations to each other and to Supreme King Astar, all of them are good friends who know each other on a person level. Seen as the leaders of the empire, more information can be found in each of their bio's.
Magistrate
This rank is only used by the strongest people who serve under the Supremes within the empire. They act as local lords over various worlds in the space they control. With many different personalities, they are either aggressively friendly and nice to those who worship and serve their greatness or they are terrifyingly evil to all of those who stand against them. Due to their constant hunger for power, they will bide their time as they build their forces and invade each other's territories to claim more for themselves. They will conquer and claim anything they wish so long as they don't engage and anger the Supremes. Being smaller lords of territories they are united under the empires black flag as they invade other empires and nations on the whims of the Supremes. In order to go to war with each other they must follow all rules and regulations set out in high command and then their war will be not only televised across the empire but their rank and power will increase. Many of the Supremes and citizens alike enjoy watching the great wars of the Magistrates across the empire engage in warfare. Rule under the Magistrates can be an unbearable hellscape of struggles and starvation as they vie for power but within the empire all are treated well from slaves to citizens and all of those in between. Many people's goals include becoming a Magistrate due to the immense power, wealth, and freedoms associated with the role and the fear it employs. To become a Magistrate once must complete all military training while also finishing all additional training associated with their chosen role. Afterwards you will enroll into the Magistrate Training Academy or MTA within the Empire's Royal Military Academy to complete the grueling training. Few can go directly into MTA if chosen and they excel at rigorous training exercises and with highly regarded and respected marks. After completing all exercises from the MTA you will serve a 50 year contract under a Magistrate to learn from them. This has been changed to a 200 contract in more recent years.
Base Commander / Fleet Admiral
The Base Commander and Fleet Admiral ranks are a rank very few within the empire will ever obtain. This rank is issued from the individuals who excel at leadership within their current roles before embarking on a very long rotating contract. Besides being temporary contracts in extreme situations issued directly by the Supremes, a normal contract length is 500 years. Base Commanders are the few individuals which hold the absolute power and authority of the various military bases and space stations throughout the Empires control. Hive Queens and Fleet Queens also hold this rank but are not considered with the same military regard. Fleet Admirals are highly respected as the absolute authority on the seas and within space. Magistrates will take their council and in wartime Magistrates will offer their fleets even without being ordered to gain more fame and experience. The most famous of all Fleet Admirals in the Empire is Tachibana Hiragana The Supreme Fleet Admiral. She leads all other Fleet Admirals in an effort to spread the influence of the Empire. One may become an Admiral through hard work and dedication but in order to ascend to the rank of Fleet Admiral, one must also know how to control the Swarm as well as control the Fleet. In reference to their powers and authorities, when on a base the Base Commander has more but while not on a base the Fleet Commander has more authority and power.
High Commander / Special Commander
High Commanders and Special Commanders are those who are out in a position where they need to lead a large group of Commanders or a specialized squad. Many veteran commanders who lead large groups of soldiers into battle will eventually get the chance at being a High Commander either across the gate or on another battlefield. In some situations Special Commanders will lead special crews on their ship with a secret mission or task in mind or they may even serve alongside many of the Magistrates as their personal advisors. There is a higher chance a veteran Commander will end up being a specialized Commander than being chosen as a High Commander. The few High Commanders who serve across the gate are legends in their own rights and appreciated by the military while Special Commanders are talked about by the populace as their missions yield huge results.
Commander
Commanders are at the top of the list when it comes to leadership and personable skills. When a General or High General is too good at their job leading their men's loyalties first and mission second, they are chosen to undertake intense academic training to become a High or Special Commander. Alongside the massive pay raise and respect within the Empire at large, the commanders of a battlefield have the skills, abilities, and knowledge of their troops to change the flow of battle to better suit their needs and increase their chances of survival or victory. On rate occasions an admiral may ascend to the position of Commander, but mostly the Commanders who serve on ships are those with exemplary commanding skills and prowess to win any engagement. There are many times where a Commander will be second to a High Admiral on their Flagship assisting them in times of need.
General / Admiral
Generals and Admirals are on the front lines of the Astarian Empire. They come in 3 different ranks, the fresh out of Command Training the Low General and Low Admiral. The seasoned and experienced Generals and Admirals who are well versed in their roles and are hands on front of the line soldiers. The High General and High Admiral are specialized leadership roles who lead the Generals and Admirals under their command. They will serve under the Commanders who issue their company's orders and will help entire platoons operate at peak efficiency. Most people who ascend to the position of General or Admiral within the Astarian Empire that are of a similar posiotion in their respective military with take the Low aversion of the rank. Natural soldiers and citizens of the Astarian Empire will retain the mid level rank as they are fast tracked into their position.
Colonel
Few ever obtain the rank of Colonel due to skipping from Major to General. A Colonel is a respected role who is in charge of a large group, a special location, a base or any other place which a General can't oversee. While they are very experienced Majors and wish to fully take the leap into the roles of General or Admiral, the very few candidates who are selected to begin the progress when a spot opens up are the Colonels.
Major
Majors rank at the top of their fields of experience and knowledge being seen more as a house of wisdom than a true fighting force. Many times their ranks signify experience and dedication in their fields of study and not their power or prowess. Although most will stay at the tip-top rank of Major, a select few will wish to ascend even further into a hardened leadership role of General or Admiral. As they go through a grueling physical test which knocks down 95% of candidates since they are less physical trained and more complacent, the individual testing by other Generals and Admirals is what sets them back. Out of the 10,000 candidates a year who wish to get the rank of their determination and dreams, only 3 will be given the rank of Colonel, maybe 1 will get the job of General or Admiral.
Captain
Captains are highly skilled and trained individuals who have been successful within their role. As they begin to develop a wealth of knowledge and experience they will take on new junior Lieutenants and teach them the ropes as they learn the required skills to do their job. Highly distinguished individuals may take their skills to the next level as they become a Major with more responsibility and greater flexibility.
Lieutenant
Lieutenants are the first step towards being an officer within the military. Their rank allows for jobs like Doctors, Surgeons, Lawyers, Judges and others which require a very high level of education and study. They will have to not only finish their OCS or OTA, but will also go and attend an advanced military course on the subject before working in their field for a minimum of 5 years. After they complete all their education, training, and 5 year requirements they can take an exam to become a Captain.
Sergeant
Sergeants are the backbone of the main combat leadership forces on the ground. While Corporals lead entire teams into combat zones the Sergeant will lead full platoons. They are highly combat trained, most are magically gifted, and they have a high survivability and success rate due to their intense training and exercises they conduct with their soldiers. There was once a Sergeant of a aerial magical reconnaissance unit who made their troops march across the tundra under constant artillery fire, avalanches, and powerful hunting parties to make it to a specific destination. Their intense training which hardened their resolve and allowing them to survive any encounter made them a supreme fighting force. Sergeants are the leadership who serve directly under Generals and Admirals. Although they follow military ranks and command, most officers above them are jokes on the battlefield and are trained for specific jobs. As they are forced or gently promoted up to higher ranks they will keep their Sergeant titles and patches and apply it to their new role. They will go by Sergeant Lieutenant, Sergeant Captain, Sergeant Major, Sergeant Colonel.
Corporal
Corporals serve under Sergeants as their second in command and are more combat focused role. Many Privates who do become Specialists will skip this role entirely as they focus on the jobs they wish to do which are not combat focused. In major combat situations where many others are pulled in from all areas to cover a disaster or a specialized term of service, many of Higher ranks will fall under the leadership of the Corporals and their leading Sergeants.
Specialist
Specialists are the soldiers who have fully committed to a specific job. Most of the time they need to pass specific physical and written assessments and tests to ensure they know everything they can and should as they finish all their academic studies. They will enter into their job field studying under either senior officers or sergeants depending on how combat focused their jobs are. As they gain experience this is when most make the shift to the Officer Candidate School OCS or the Officer Training Academy OTA.
Private
Privates are the first and most plentiful of all soldiers within the military force. They come from all walks of life, previous military services, and military training schools and academies. They will continue down their military career path as they develop the tools of their trade and hone their skills and abilities. When they find a job or role they wish to do they will enter into their individual schooling program. This can be changing bases, going to specific work locations, doing field work, or even entering into the adventurers guild. Many opportunities arise with every job available as they take more advanced tests to determine their aptitude and qualifications.
Recruit / Trainee
Recruits and Trainees are jobs given to those who have great dreams and aspirations to enter into the Astarian Empire's Military. They aren't given any special roles or jobs and learn at a slower more school like pace with instructors to guide them. Usually Trainees are younger adults who are still within their various training and learning institutions and begin to do physical training and learning the codes and conducts of the military before they begin their military service. Recruits however tend to be those who are transferring into the military from a previous military power, location, or from civilian life. They will undergo some intense physical training as they adapt to the military lifestyle. When both the Trainees and Recruits are ready for military service, they will be pushed through Basic Training.
