Dragons

Dragon Representing The Dragon People.

Description

Once the rulers of the skies, hunting all those who dare to approach their territory and dens, they have secluded themselves in their far away places. As dragons are capable of reason, thought, communication, and other forms of powers which intelligent and sentient races use, they act as a tribe-like people who live in various places. Honorable, noble, honest, and true, Dragons will tell you what it is in the most efficient way whether that upsets someone or not. Over time the Dragons began to use humanoid forms and mimic human societies as they live in peace and prosperity the best they can. Within the Astarian Empire they have freedom to live how they like but within groups of people they are in their humanoid forms to help keep low profiles. Dragons in their humanoid form look different from each other species of Dragon as they begin to have some of their Dragonic traits, check each species to see their individual appearance. The Astarian Empire classifies Dragons as large beings who hunt the sky and live as Apex predators in most areas on most worlds. While Drakes may be large Land Dragons, by themselves they are Apex Hunters while compared to other Dragons they may not be Apex Hunters. The classification is based on the sheer amount of the loss of life when one attacks a Human city. Dragons come in 2 general skin types, Scaled and Furred. While their Scales will resist greater amounts of damage, they are unable to survive in cold climates. Sudden blizzards or snow storms will cause a Scaled Dragon to enter a short hibernation as a defense mechanism due to their circulation drastically slowing. Scaled Dragons will be slowed down by frost and ice based magic and attacks which have been greatly exploited by adventurers on most worlds. Furred Dragons are the opposite, they resist cold and are strong against heat. Furred Dragons thrive and easily survive in the winters and cold climate becoming the Apex Hunters of the frosted lands. When in a hot climate the Furred Dragon will grow heated and agitated but will still persevere against all odds.

Species And Faction

Species:
There are 7 major species of Dragon that have been discovered and exist within The Astarian Empire.

Dragon, Hydra, Wyvern, Drake, Amphiptere, Wyrm, Lindworm

True Dragon:
True Dragons or just Dragons are massive dinosaur-like reptiles with 4 legs, large bat-like wings, and a serpentine tail. On some worlds they may have Scales while on other worlds they will have Fur instead. They can develop extra large scale plate like armor and even smaller horns and spikes over the back and edges of the scales. The True Dragon breathes Dragon Fire, a magical fire breath attack which can burn all targets in the cone area as the breath spreads outwards. As dragons age their breath attack grows stronger as does their resistances and abilities. Dragon fire is also changed and manipulated based on what type of Dragon it is. Dragons develop their colors through the main type of magic spells they learn and know, the more types of magic they use the more shimmering they become. It is said seeing a shimmering dragon is a sign of the countless types of spells which are casted at someone. Generally when a dragon begins to learn most types of magic they turn into a black dragon with black scales or fur to signify their use of majority or all magic element types.

The True Dragons Humanoid Form is a frail light skinned person featuring their bat wings, dragon horns, dragon nail claws, and a smaller dragon tail. Their eyes change to the color of their dragon bodies showing what magic they can use in their Humanoid Form.

Hydra:
The Hydra are large dinosaur-like reptiles with 4 legs, large bat-like wings, and a serpentine tail. They develop extra large scale plate like armor and spikes over the back and edges of the scales. They begin to undergo a mutation caused by the ingestion of dense amounts of magic. They lose their wings and most of their power as their body begins to change and readjust itself, this has caused new dragon heads to sprout from the body and begin to grow. The new heads are smaller and need more space and power to grow so the front of the body begins to enlarge as the back begins to narrow greatly into the rear legs then tail. The more they consume, the more they grow and they can be described by the number of heads they have. They grow their new heads in pairs of 2 around the outside or when one is destroyed. It will prioritize regenerating a lost head from the head socket over growing 2 new heads. The heads begin to develop magic abilities and they can even use their Dragon Breath which can be used separately by each head. As Hydras grow they begin to develop different organs to allow them to survive in the water and underground making them extremely hard to find and kill. When wounded their heads will retreat away putting fresh heads to the front while it heals the wounded ones in the back. On some worlds Hydras carry their eggs inside of their bodies ready to hatch at a moments notice, the longer they are inside their egg the stronger and more developed they can become. An ancient Hydra may lay large eggs which after decades of growth will hatch into large 3 headed Hydras which flee the area to not be eaten and start their own new lives. Although there is no sealing to the number of heads a Hydra can have, the most ever recorded in the Astarian Empire is the 19 Headed Hydra which acts as a massive underground or swamp infested monster of many serpent dragon heads to fight at one time.

The Hydras Humanoid Form is a frail light skinned person featuring smaller copies of their head on their shoulders which can’t speak but can look around. They have dragon nail claws, and a smaller dragon tail. Their eyes change to the color of their main dragon bodies showing what magic they can use in their Humanoid Form while their shoulder heads show the eyes of their other heads Each eye can have a different color expanding their magical abilities to cover their most 6 powerful magic elements.

Wyvern:
The Wyvern are large dinosaur-like reptiles with 2 legs, bat-like wings which act as their forelimbs, and a venomous barbed serpentine tail. On some worlds they may have Scales while on other worlds they will have Fur instead. They can develop extra large scale plate like armor and even smaller horns and spikes over the back and edges of the scales. They can develop thick matted fur to absorb and resist non-elemental damages. Although Furred Wyverns are very uncommon on the majority of worlds, they can be found within the Astarian Empire living their lives like normal. Wyverns are vicious territorial pack hunting aerial combat specialists who will easily shred a dragon if their flock gets close. Due to their smaller size and ease of use as mounts, many of them become Wyvern Rider Mounts as they will always be loved and taken care of as a pet for Wyvern Riders. So long as they receive affection, attention, love, and food they will be loyal servants and friends as they see everything as a food source and just need the permission to eat.

The Wyverns Humanoid Form is a short stacked light skinned person featuring their dragon nail claws and a smaller non-venomous barbed dragon tail. Their eyes change to the color of their Wyvern bodies showing what magic they can use in their Humanoid Form. They tend to mate with Humans and carry their children through Childbirth in their Humanoid Form. Once pregnant they lose the ability to change back into their Wyvern forms and must stay in their Humanoid Form until the child has been birthed. It takes 8 months to develop and grow a Wyvern offspring which is then pushed out as a massive egg which will stay at the home and continue to grow until it is hatched. Specialists in Wyvern anatomy will visit and check up on the children and to make any magical adjustments to ensure a good clean birth, although they have no names it is common for the Wyvern to then abandon their child to the flock and return to their normal everyday lives. This is seen as completely normal to most other races but with humans they seem to be more angry and puzzled at the thought of abandoning their children.

Drake:
The Drake like a Dragon is a massive dinosaur-like reptile with 4 legs and a serpentine tail, it lacks the wings and all abilities to fly instead becoming a land based Apex Predator. On some worlds they may have Scales while on other worlds they will have Fur instead. They can breathe Dragon Fire, a magical fire breath attack which can burn all targets in the cone area as the breath spreads outwards. As Drakes age their breath attack grows stronger as does their resistances and abilities. Dragon fire is also changed and manipulated based on what type of Drake it is. Drakes develop their colors through the main type of magic spells they learn and know, the more types of magic they use the more glassy jet black they become.

The Drakes Humanoid Form like the Dragons Humanoid Form is a frail light skinned person featuring their dragon horns, dragon nail claws, and a smaller dragon tail, while lacking their bat wings as a normal dragon. Their eyes change to the color of their drake body showing what magic they can use in their Humanoid Form.

Amphiptere:
The Amphiptere are massive serpents with sharp venomous maws of teeth which chomp and inflict status effects like Blind, Darkness, Poison, Illness, and Death. They have 2 pairs of large bat-like wings down their long serpent body. On some worlds they may have Scales while on other worlds they will have Fur instead. They breathe Dragon Fire, a magical fire breath attack which can burn all targets in the cone area as the breath spreads outwards.

The Dragon Wyrm breathes a cloud of poison breath in a small area which lingers for some time.

Culture

The culture of dragons is rich and long lived on the worlds they hail from. They live in small tribes and groups who compete with each other in a series of games and challenges through great celebrations. Many worlds have begun to accept the Dragons as a friendly race who hunt the skies using their reasoning and intelligence with some becoming protectors and deities. Check each world to see their individual cultures.

Astarian Empire's Thoughts

Dragons are super powerful and cool to look at. They are the natural pinnacles of magic and power throughout all fantasy and they are revered as such. Killing a dragon is seen as a nigh impossible task only achievable through the hard work of heroes and legendary individuals with specific magic and powers being developed to be effective against them. Although many dragons are seen as sporadic sightings with few on a world, seeing a flock of them is a sign of a great calamity. One dragon can nest in a mountain of Ore and stop all productions because the people living there are unable to fight it without losing their entire civilization. While some worlds dragons are seen as an engageable menace on other worlds dragons are the pinnacle of destruction. Every world is different but the powers of dragons reign at the top below the gods for a reason.

After The Cataclysmic Shift

After the Great Cataclysmic Shift the Dragon population across non Astarian Empire worlds dwindled in population and reproduction capabilities but exploded in power.
