Forsmon
Forsmon Representing The United Creatures Of The Forest.
Description
Various races which grew up in the magical infused forest allow for unique races to become the primary inhabitants on the world of Jornah. The rich magic power changes the lands, the trees become infused and changed. The ground grows large magical mushrooms which can produce various kinds of air born mist like substance. This has allowed for people of the trees, people of the dust, and people of the animals to be born from magical power and then reproduce furthering their species. This specific breed of spore mushroom is the Forsmonshroom, a life giving mushroom which releases a powerful magic rich spore burst then it decays and dies allowing new life to sprout from the inside of its body. This phenomenon was first discovered before the great Catacylismic Shift and after much early magical study of the race the shift occurred and bursted the mushrooms on all the worlds created the new Forsmon people. Through genetic changes and great manipulation the Swarm was able to reproduce these life giving burst mushrooms and repurpose them for the Swarm use. The specific Forsmonshroom is housed within the ancient race vault within high command to further the race if it ever dies out. While many other forest races can be found on various worlds, their populations are so small or so magically altered with little chance to be found again they are categorized and classified and watched over from a distance. These include the Gremlen, Tengu, Fawn, Shroam, and the Swarlen.
Species And Faction
Species:
There are 4 major species of Forsmon that have been discovered and exist within The Astarian Empire.
Dryads, Fairies, Treeants, Pixies
Dryads:
Wood people with leaves and brush attached to their bodies which store their magic power. They are androgynous sexless beings who spread their magic power to trees which can turn them into either Treeants or Dryads. They are seen as caretakers of the forest and channel powerful earth and nature magic from the land itself to become powerful spell casting beings. All other races tend to relax and be at ease when around a dryad as their powers can level huge areas of the world itself through their irritation and frustration. As the forests are a natural resource even demons will abide from the rules of the Dryads when harvesting in their forests to not invoke their wrath. Once even the gods challenged a Dryad's authority so she swallowed the entire kingdom and people who worshiped the god rendering them powerless and broken while the Dryad just laughed hysterically at the young child throwing a fit. When a dryad dies the forest needs some time to recreate a new dryad to take over, this can cause the entire forest to instantly die to create the Dryad. This makes other races very on edge about destroying a Dryad for power or vengeance. All Dryads are connected to each other in their forest while they can tap into the world itself to converse with the Dryads of other forests. They have innate control over all flora and connect to them directly, this allows them to know anything and everything that happens around any and all flora like plants and grass. As they act as a larger council of forest keepers from their own forests allowing the various races to exist and to watch over them. They do in fact have a direct connection to the gods above and they are at the same rank as them. While the gods watch the world from above, the Dryads watch the world from below and keep it in line.
Fairies:
Fairies are generally described as human in appearance ranging in size from very tiny to the size of a small child. Although they have a normal sized appearance that is wingless in form, they will only don their Fae form in order to gain something. They are known for possessing beauty unmatched by all things existing in the realm of gods, this has had many people seek them out to make wishes or trade things for their beauty and looks. Fairies generally tend to have pointed ears like the Elven people even when in their large human sized Fae form. This is however just an illusion to appeal to the dominant species or to those who are seeking them out. In reality they are much less attractive, and are just a normal race of people whose looks vary from Fairy to Fairy. Their true appearance is that of a smaller Elf / Elftol. Although many believe Fairies to be people who seek out those in need or in power to strike deals and gain great desires, they are in fact an isolated bunch who wish to avoid others. While they are isolated when they are found out they are committed to notions of honor and etiquette, always staying true exactly to the letter of any promise they have made. They deliver these results with great irony and often use clever wordplay to their advantage in order to create loopholes for them to exploit, if people are purposely seeking them out and disturbing them then they will get compensation for it in any way they can.
While many people believe Fairies are unable to lie and must always tell the truth, that is far from the fact. They are not bound by any form of magic or contract that makes them unable to lie, this notion has spread much to the Fairies delight as now they can act how they please to great effect. They can also expertly weave lies into sentences by using various methods like not telling the whole truth, letting others assume things, not correcting the people they're speaking with, or just by naturally hiding them in. Discovering a Fairies lie seems like it is a big thing to most races but then they learn that it means nothing and they have lost nothing to tell a lie. Fairies are known to suffer from and receive treatment for many kinds of illnesses and diseases which originate from the magic which affects their mind. They are either crazed with OCD and other mind shattering and debilitating illnesses or they suffer from the desires to lay with all races and they catch all manners of STD’s which are even worse when enhanced with magic. Fairies tend to have addictive personalities and behaviors and when laying with humans they will pick up various habits like smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol which starts small until it becomes a massive problem. It is said that owning a Fairy will grant you magic powers, and Consuming a Fairy will grant you powerful magical abilities which allow you to rival the gods. In reality they are a diseased ridden bunch who offer you nothing but torment and it affects all races equally.
Fairies can be summoned by spells to make deals with humans, often exchanging their services for a price. Once called upon, a fairy will remain in that area until banished by a spell. Many humans have used this trick to gain power and tried to be cheeky by making the deal of their first born. Fairies love the challenge and will then not only cure all of their inability to reproduce but will also lay with a cheeky human just because to inflict upon them so many diseases that the human will wish they were cursed instead. They will then make the females and even the males grow, carry, and birth the new Fairy using magic with extra suffering attached because they can. While many see the Fairies as cute and friendly, they are a people who care little for other races and will destroy them with mischievous behavior because they are bored. They are kept in line while living in the forests by the Dryads but once they leave the forest they are absolute menaces to society. There are entire groups of people who dedicate their lives to capture them, not for sinister purposes but to take them to a nearby Dryad and return them back to the beautiful flowery forest hells they belong to.
Treeants:
As the magic power is born and matured within a large long lived tree it becomes changed, strengthened, and sentient. As the magic swells within the wood, the bark, the roots, the leaves, the mask begins to slowly form. This mask is where much of the power gathers and is stored as the Tree evolves into something new. A Tree Person, A Treefolk, or the most common name the Empire uses, the Treeant. The Treeant is normally protected by their forest brethren during their birth, but they will consume the nearby magical power to arise from the ground into a massive defender of the forest. Dryads, Druids, Fairies, Pixies, and other races can come together offering magical power as a blessing and boon to speed up and reduce the overall magical consumption to birth a new defender of the forest. As the roots from the grounds fuse and form together with a split they will walk on their legs, with the branches from the skies fuse and twist they become arms, A large sapling will emerge from the top acting as the hair of the Treeant as it also helps absorb sunlight to empower itself even more during the day. Treeants have wooden mask-like faces where they can talk and speak towards other life using magical words which convey the natural meaning to things and are not as eloquent as other races. Treeants will slowly grow more powerful, shrink in size as they take on the appearance of large giant golems. Their bark then over a long period of time begins to shrink and harden into bark which is far stronger than steel. Their size is that of an Orc as their bodies are covered in thick armored bark, they begin to develop magic powers and become powerful combat units. At times they will be ordered to defend the forest or to help an ally of the Dryads. Treeants are powerful melee combatants who may be slow and lumbering but they cast magic through their feet into the ground to grab and ensnare their victims as they close the distance using weapons made of their own bark.
Treeants in the modern day are an interesting bunch, they are much more festive and explorative than their ancient selves. They have multiple layers of masks which they have certain looks and expressions for, they will exchange the masks whenever they can or as a situation arises. The Treeants have control over their outer bark layers pigments and coloring, this allows them to wear outfits and clothing they find amusing. In the Empire the Treeants attend a schooling system similar to the demons as they absorb massive amounts of knowledge before embarking as guides to or as adventurers for the Empire. Although they have to deal with Demons in a more personal sense throughout the Empire and their people, they tend to keep a close eye on them, never believing the claims that Demons are good people.
Pixies:
The pixies are a larger, more vicious version of a fairy who are very kind and caring towards all creatures of the forest. They are nurtured to those who they meet and will offer everything they have to help travelers and those who are lost. They can grant small wishes and favors at a small price of things they like and are generally cute creatures the size of a large flower. They do however possess a mouth which opens and extends into a massive maw allowing them to eat animals the size of rabbits in a few bites. They are extremely carnivorous and will hunt the scent of blood across the entire forest as they chase them. prey. Although they know not to harm the creatures or people accepted by the forest, this can't be said for travelers, adventurers, people, creatures, monsters, or even gods who may walk through the forest with bleeding wounds. They have been seen completely eating fallen travelers and adventurers who pass through the forest who rest with battle wounds. They keep to themselves without harming the other creatures of their forest but can and will devour their enemies. They are aggressive pack hunters who will silently stalk their prey hoping they fall and hurt themselves so they can rush to give them aid. After they leave the forest they will follow them until they reach their allies, always smiling and helping their party when they can. They provide basic magic spells and healing spells to make good impressions. When the exhausted party sleeps after a tough fight wounded but alive they awake to the numbing bites wearing off and the paralysis keeps them from moving as they watch and silently scream as they are being eaten alive by flocks of Pixies. Some may confuse Pixies and Fairies but Pixies do not speak and only gesture at things, they have full understanding and comprehension of all known languages at the cost of being able to communicate.
